49ers Make a Big Move
Well Well Well! After going 0-8, GM John Lynch and Head Coach Kyle Shanahan finally had enough. The quarterback play has been mediocre at best and it was time to get a quarterback who has a great chance to flourish in Shanhan’s system.
So at the trading deadline, the Niners traded a second-round draft pick in 2018, for New England Patriots backup Quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, who is a twenty-five-year-old unrestricted free agent. Even though Gaproppolo has suffered a shoulder injury, he has shown major promise to be an outstanding quarterback. As a backup, he was thrown into the game as a replacement for Tom Brady, who was serving time off for the famous Deflategate scandal.
During the campaign of replacing Brady, Garoppolo was effective by throwing for zero interceptions, four touchdowns, and put up a quarterback rating of 91.1 in two games during the 2016 season.
Can Garoppolo be the savior? We will find out soon enough. The 49er brass thought enough of him to make a move. Honestly, it was way overdue as the 49ers have several issues.
Garoppolo will receive a new contract estimated to be in the 25 million dollar range. The 49ers can handle a long-term contract to Garoppolo, which will not show until the 2018 season.
